Nevelskiy Nominated for Sobaka.ru’s Top 25 in Art
This year, I was nominated in the Art category of Sobaka.ru’s annual award, “Top 25: The Most Famous People of Krasnodar.” The fifth edition of the award brought together 25 nominees working across six fields, including art, theater, business, sport and media.
The nomination followed a year in which much of my work moved beyond independent electronic releases and into film composition, artist production and collaborative projects. Earlier in 2017, Sobaka.ru published an interview about my transition from combining music with other work to building a full-time career as a composer and sound producer.
A separate feature appeared in the September collector’s issue dedicated to the award nominees. The magazine presented my recent work in cinema, beginning with the soundtrack for Evgenia Marokhotina’s short film Shoes, which was selected for the VI KONIK International Short Film Festival.
The interview also introduced my next film project, The Perfect Script, directed by Sergey Telin. This production gave me an opportunity to become part of the filmmaking process itself. During the shoot in Moscow, I composed material for one of the central scenes directly on set. A string quartet appearing in the film performed the music during filming, allowing the score and the action to develop together. The remaining production continued in my Krasnodar studio, including a vocal collaboration with Maria Marchenko.
The magazine feature also covered my continuing work as a sound producer: developing material with artists, creating music for choreography and collaborating with musicians from different cities. These projects may have taken very different forms, but they were united by the same approach—understanding what a scene, performance or artist needs and building an individual musical language around it.
The awards ceremony took place on September 16 at the Krasnodar Youth Theater. The evening combined the presentation of the nominees with a theatrical program and the awards themselves. Sobaka.ru’s official photo report from the ceremony documents the event and my participation in it.
For me, being included in the Art category was meaningful because it recognized the creative work that often remains behind the frame: composition, production and the process of turning an idea into a finished musical world.
