Our "Промені" Remix Hits #1 on MusicBox Ukraine

The Nevelskiy & Alex Sate remix of MARLEN's "Промені" just went to #1 on the "Свої" chart on MusicBox Ukraine — and it's topping Kiss FM's 10DANCE chart, the national dance countdown that runs on listener votes. For a remix, reaching the top of a listener-voted chart is about the best answer you can get.

The remix
MARLEN's original "Промені" is a Ukrainian pop song — written by Sehii Romanov and Yanina Zheman, composed by Slava Shkoda. For our version, Alex Sate and I kept only MARLEN's vocal and built everything else from scratch: new music, new arrangement, new production. Neither of us worked on the original, so on the release we're both credited as composers of the remix — the instrumental is a new piece of music written under her voice, not an edit of the original.
When it was done, I didn't want to hand off the video and hope for the best, so I cut my own edit of the music video to match the new version. That's the edit MusicBox Ukraine picked up and put into rotation.
The chart run
On MusicBox Ukraine's viewer chart "Свої," the remix went to #1 and held the top spot for several weeks. On radio, it led Kiss FM's 10DANCE chart — the station's weekly Ukrainian dance countdown, where the Top 10 is chosen entirely by listener vote — and stayed at the top for three months running.
The voting part is what makes this one mean something to me. A programmer can add a track to a playlist; a listener chart is people choosing to put it there, week after week. That's the cleanest signal a remix can get. On MARLEN's own Spotify profile, our version is now her most-played track — ahead of the original "Промені."
