Creating Music and Sound Design for MedInnovation

I have created the music and sound design for a new presentation video produced by Wide Sense Media for the German medical technology company MedInnovation GmbH.

The video introduces a laboratory method developed to support the early detection and monitoring of oncological diseases. The technology uses electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy to analyze changes in the functional properties of serum albumin.

This is a complex scientific process that cannot simply be filmed. The production relies on 3D graphics and animation to explain what happens at the molecular level, while the soundtrack connects those images and guides the viewer through the presentation.

Giving Sound to an Invisible Process

My work on the project includes two related but distinct parts: original music and sound design.

The music establishes the overall tone. It needs to feel modern and technological, but the medical subject requires restraint. An overly dramatic composition would distract from the information, while something too neutral would leave the video without direction or emotional continuity.

The sound design works more closely with the animation. It supports movement, transitions and changes within the 3D graphics, giving the visual elements a sense of scale and physical presence.

Neither layer is intended to draw attention away from the scientific content. Their purpose is to make a complicated explanation clearer, more coherent and easier to follow.

The Production Team

The video is produced by Wide Sense Media.

Anton Ananin directs the project and serves as one of its producers alongside Pavel Tsesarsky. Alexey Kornev creates the 3D graphics and compositing. I am responsible for the complete musical and sound component.

Because the story is carried largely through animation rather than dialogue or live action, the visual and audio production need to function as a single system. Every sound has to correspond with the movement on screen, while the music provides continuity across the entire presentation.

The project shows how music and sound design can contribute to technical and medical communication. The same production tools used in film, advertising and records can also help explain a scientific idea—provided that the sound supports the information instead of competing with it.

More information about the technology is available on the MedInnovation website.
