John B just dropped our F.I.69 remix of O.Crow's "8 Bit Robot" into his live set — and released it to the world as John B Podcast 100. For a track we made in Krasnodar, on a Black Hole sublabel, that's hard to overstate.

The release
F.I.69 is my project with producer and DJ Igor Maksimenko (M.I.P.) — bass music, dubstep and drum-and-bass. Our remix of O.Crow's "8 Bit Robot" is out on Rub-A-Duck, a sublabel of Black Hole Recordings, the Dutch label co-founded by Tiësto and Arny Bink and one of the longest-running independent names in dance music.
Here's what that means from where we sit: we work out of Krasnodar, a regional city in southern Russia with no electronic-music industry around it. There's no local pipeline to a label like Black Hole. You get on one of their imprints on the strength of the record, or you don't get on at all.
Why a DJ set is the thing you're chasing
If you're not deep in this scene, it's worth explaining why a spot in someone's set is the real prize. Drum-and-bass and bass music don't break on charts or downloads — they break in DJ sets. A track comes alive when a respected DJ decides to play it out, put it in a recorded mix, and carry it to an audience that trusts what they pick. That's the difference between a release that disappears and one that reaches the whole scene. You can't buy it and you can't fake it: a set is an hour long, and every slot in it is a choice.
The set
John B has been releasing and touring drum-and-bass since the late 1990s, with his own label and a following across Europe, the US and Japan. He recorded this set live at Schuur in Lucerne, Switzerland, and put it out as John B Podcast 100: Live in Luzern.
Our remix sits in the tracklist at 32:44 — between Dillinja, DJ Craze, TC, Phace & Misanthrop, J Majik & Wickaman and Omni Trio. That's the founding generation of this music and the biggest names working in it right now. A remix that started in a Krasnodar studio, chosen for that hour, next to those records — that's exactly what you make tracks hoping for.
